what is growing in my outdrive water passage?

I don't know if this is really a technical question, but I'll post it here because it is outdrive related.

I took my drive off to check alignment and what not, and found a funky clear / white / red goo growing inside the water passage. It has a gel-like consistency.

I'm guessing it's some sort of bacteria or something. Guess I'll wash it away with some bleach or other disinfectant.

Has anybody ever noticed this kind of growth in the water passage? Anything to be concerned about?

thanks

I have seen that kind of goo growing in residential air conditioning drip pans and drain lines when I lived in OK. Looked the same and was like a gel. I figured it was some kind of fungus. I think the bleach would be a good solution along with a flexible wire brush on a drill.
