What is easiest way to change volvo penta shift cable??

Hello,

Ive got a 1990 570A coupled with a DP-A1 Outdrive. Ive got the outdrive off and am replacing bellows, shift cable needs replacement too. I worked some on getting it through the stern and was having a hard time. Can you pull it through? Or do you need to unbolt the water intake fitting and then take the shift cable hose off? If you can pull it through, which way is better to go?

Let the hose down so it's as level as possible. with the drive off, you can go either way.
