Title kinda says it all. What is a quality/lasting boat cover? Who makes it?? I have bought various ones that seem to go to .... in less than a year. I do admit, wind is an issue here in CO. I uncover to transport.

I just looked at the boat cover link auto inserted in my post, Glasspar is not listed. Is any one of the listed makes a reasonable alternate? (The trouble with loving old stuff, PARTS even entire Models not supported)

To clarify, you are looking for a storage cover and not one to be used while trailering your boat? Those have to be tenacious winds to destroy even the cheap storage covers. You might be better off with a tarp.

If you do want the boat covered while trailer, absolutely have a custom canvas cover made for your boat. What usually destroys them during travel is loose fitting areas that flap themselves into oblivion.

Exactly, unfortunately my boat spends more time stored than in use, sad as it is!! I have had three different store bought ones that in one winter became brittle and then with our winds here along the front range they tear apart. I have tried a tarp, they sun burn and disintegrate and the rings tear out. I'm going to look into the Great Lakes Boat Top and see what they have.

!

If you want one that lasts have it made from sumbrella or top gun. Its that simple.

Have you looked here on iboats? If they don't have a cover for your boat check dowcomarine.com.

Every winter I put my boat outside with the original cover and then topped with a good tarp. I can't imagine that the Colorado weather is much harsher than a Minnesota winter. First step would be not to buy a cheap tarp. Cheap tarps disintegrate when you look at them. I've had the same tarp (probably $60) for the past 8 years. The eyelets are all intact and it doesn't have any rips. Especially if it's windy, you really need to be sure that you've got the tarp cinched down tight so that it's not flapping in the wind. Sometimes that entails folding or doubling the tarp over where there is excess material around the bow. Use lots of ropes and/or stretch cords.

If your talking about the blue tarps like the ones you can buy at Home Depot, after spending too much on what were supposed to be quality covers, that become brittle and crack and tear, that is what I went too and I now use. I go through at least one a year. Yes, about $60 or so. I'd like something I can get 5 or so years out of. By the way, since I moved to Colorado, the record wind along the eastern slope was 147mph as recorded by the NCAR in Boulder. We also get extreme sun damage due to our much higher altitude and less filters for the UV rays.
