What is an Anode and what does it do. How do I know if mine need to be replaced ?

The anode, or more properly sacrificial anode is made of a metal alloy the electrolysis eats instead of you motor. I like to replace them if they are about 1/4 eaten. The manufactures usually tell you 1/3 gone. But they are cheap protection for you motor so I replace them often.
