I am getting a new baitcasting combo and have settled on this reel. Left handed retrieve and a 6.4:1 ratio.

Now I am looking for a rod. A 6'6" MH.
I was looking at an XPS rod that was on sale for 70 dollars. But, I don't want to spend $70 on a rod at this moment.

Would this be a good match for this reel or should I head for something else? I was leaning toward the last one on the order sheet

Like this.

And if I went for something like this would I go with the second or third on the order sheet?
Are either of these a good match or should I head back to the XPS?
And lastly, before I go overboard, a 6'6" MH is a good rod for this reel, right?

For what it`s worth, I just tried and sold one just like it. I was less than excited about it. It doesn`t have an adjustable magnetic control on the side which will help a novice adjust the reel easily. It didn`t cast as well as my Diawa`s and was at times noisy. I have settled in on the Daiwa 103 HI`s, not the very newest ones, but the last years model. They can be had for $60-90.00 on Ebay.

Actually it does. That was one of its selling points I had the chance to handle this rell at the store last weekend. This particular one does. The one that doesn't is on the same body and same size as this one. I almost bought a reconditioned one at BPS but I saw this one on sale in the catolog for the same price as a reconditioned one.

As for the rod, I am gonna be using it as an all around bass rod.

The rod you choose should depend on what you are looking to use it for , rather than what reel you buy. I normally pick the rod first then match up a reel. There some many variables. I build my own rods and have used the "cabelas fish eagle" blanks on several . They fish very well for a low buck rod. Lets us know what your going to use this set up for and we can point ya in the right direction. ( Jigging, crankbait, worms, live bait:%, jerkbaits, etc. etc.

I want an all around bass rod. I leave the live bait to either of my spinning outfits. I posted the "What rod for which purpose" last month. Yall pointed me toward a 6'6" MH for an all around bass rod. Because I am only 13 I am at the point of just learning the techniques of different types of bass fishing. As I get better and find what type of fishing suites me best I will get a more techinique appropriate rod. I also don't want to spend much more than $100 on this particular rig.

OK I remember that post. Yep a 6'6" MH fast action should be a good rod for you. If money is a concern go with the bass pro rod. For 30 bucks how can you go wrong.

Just remember if this is your first baitcaster be patient when learning to use it. In the beginning you might even get to the point you want to throw it in the lake . Stick with it and take your time, start with short cast and work your way from there. Good luck.

Actually, I have a long enough garage (55+ft) to practice indoors before I take it to the lake.
