What is a 888 outdrive?

Looking at this ad on craigslist...cheap boat.
Ever heard of a Mercruiser with a 888, Is that a pre-alpha?
You can tell i have never owned a Merc I/O!

Yes it is pre-alfa (model 1 drive) and it is connected to a Ford engine.

Edit: It is supposed to be hooked to a 302 don't know why it's behind a 140hp.
