What hubs do I need?

I recently removed my hubs/bearings off of my single axle jon boat trailer (no brakes).

When I removed everything, I noticed it had 2 bearings in the hub (inner/outer) that were the same size. It had a model number of Timken LM67048. I also have bearing buddy, model #2328

I have a 5 lug hub.

I have searched on iboats for new hubs but there are so many 5 lug options that i wasnt sure what the difference was between them. they all looked the same. I would like to find a hub that already has the bearings, races, and grease already installed. so then when i get it i can slide the bearing buddy in and call it a day.

going off the bearing buddy model, and the bearing model, can anyone help me on which hub i need???

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... You need to match the ID of yer bearings, which is the OD of the axle quill,....

so if the OD of my bearing is 2.3280", and the cone bore is 1.25", does this mean my hub size is 2.3280"??????

that would make my hub between 2-5/16 and 2-11/32"

Re: What hubs do I need?

thanks for that. I would actually need to buy a completely assembled hub. I would like to buy from here, always do :)
They don't seem to have them here. I searched a little on other sites and can find a few 4 lug versions but no 5 lug ones.

The iboats description of the hubs are pretty poor. They should be showing what bearings are in them and they don't.

You need 1 1/4" x 1 1/4". I can't find any.

Call up www.etrailer.com or Champion Trailers and see if either can help you. They may know of a source if they don't carry them. Neither show them on their website.

Re: What hubs do I need?

thats my bearing size. that cant be the hub size, can it?
The hub size is based on the axle size which determines what bearings you have in there.

Basically, you need a hub that is 5 lug on a circle diameter(possibly 4 1/2") and is for a 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 axle. The center housing diameter needs to be one that will fit the center hole in your wheel.

You have a very odd sized axle. If you are just getting this hub as a spare, I would keep looking. If you are looking to replace both hubs, it may actually be a better idea getting a new axle with hubs. May even be cheaper.

Re: What hubs do I need?

ok, maybe you can answer this. my existing hub had (2) LM67048 bearings in it. When I google bearing kits, i notice all kits have two bearings but they are not the same size. how the heck did i end up with two bearings the same size?

so by the sounds of it, im probably better off either: A) replace the whole axle OR B) replace the wheel bearings/parts separately, not as a kit

+1

very odd to have spindle same diameter.. get new axle and install it, they are not that expensive, new axles are milled with precise definitions for bearings riding in the right spot..:joyous: nothing worse than knicked up and dinged up spindles to chew up bearings.... one thing you dont want is problems on the roadway yanking the boat from here to there..

If your hubs are fine, just knock out the races, get the numbers off of those, knock out the seals, get the numbers off of those as well and order everything separately.

Always replace races when you replace the bearings.

That's just bearings, races and seals right? No new hubs?

that is correct. there is a good chance that my hubs are perfectly fine, but im one that likes to fix things that arnt broken just so i know what has been done and when. i received this trailer about 2-3 years ago and i have never replaced bearings, hubs, etc. so since i upgraded the wheels, i was going to bring everything up to date.

but now that i found out that the hubs i have are no longer in production, i can either A) replace the bearings and run it till the hubs need replaced or B) scrap everything, buy a new axle with the most up to date parts, and call it a day.

bearings/parts are a heck of a lot cheaper right now than replacing axle/hubs.
