What has happened in FireFox?

This morning when I turned on my laptop it was downloading FireFox updates. Since that time my FF home page, which had a Google search box, is no longer active. It had the big FireFox world logo in the middle of the page and the search box below it. Now you type something into the box and hit enter, nothing happens. Why can't these idiots leave well enough alone.

Another thing is, I hate Tabs, I do not use them. I always right click on links and open a new window. Now when I right click, I am given one choice. That is to open a new window in 'private browsing'. That option was there before but it was accompanied by an option to simply 'open in new window'. I have long had privacy setting that would not show history but now every window I open shows (private browsing)

What is going on? I still have the google search function to the right of the url address line but I want it back in the middle of my FireFox home page.

First try going to tools and turn off private browsing, also try, turning off your flash under add on's, I know I have to turn them off in order to get it to work correctly since updating.

They have taken a good product and tried to mess with the same crap that made IE so bad!

That is absurd. I did as you said re turning off private browsing, and everything returned to normal on the FF home page. I did not, however understand the deal about turning of 'my flash' under add ons!

In the latest update I did, when I click to open a new page, it will start to open, then my browser reverts back to the old page and does not display the new page unless I click on it a second time, in looking at the FF troubleshooting pages, it has something to do with the Flash and Shockwave. If you don't have those add in's installed it will not affect you.

This is one of the reasons I do not enable 'automatic updates' on anything. SKype has no way to disable updates, so it does not open until I select it ... :)

I've had that happen numerous times but it did not seem to be consistent and it was happening before this last update, this morning. I am not sure where you declare automatic updates vs notify of updates, for Firefox. That aside, I don't know that I would stop it even if I had the chance. You would not think that updates from a provider like FF would upset the apple cart.

I do not seem to have either Flash or Shockwave listed in my add-ons.

So far, on my PC, I have not gotten any FF updates nor any notification thereof.

Re: What has happened in FireFox?

I have a Mac and recently got an update to Firefox . . . I think Mozilla (Firefox) screwed something up with their latest release, because now, every time I start Firefox, it thinks it is recovering from a crash and wants to re-open the last page I was on before the update :noidea:

Do you have Firefox 20.0.1 and the 20.0.1 Maintenance Service? Seems to be working for me.

Haven't heard from you in a while, JRJ. How is everything down in Redding?

The FireFox deal turns out to be somewhat of a mystery. The laptop that I had the trouble with had just auto updated FireFox. I just went and checked the version and it is 20.0.1. I do not know what it had before. The mystery is that the PC that I most commonly use has version 21.0. I googled it and it said that it would not even be out until May 2013?? I cannot recall when it last did an update or what it updated from but I never had the issue on it that I described above.

What is the '20.0.1 maintenance service' issue about? I've never heard of that.

Re: What has happened in FireFox?

I use both Yahoo and Google for emails and my default browser is firefox. Recently i got a notification from Yahoo to download the 'new' firefox', only to find out that the version is one that sets up Yahoo as the default search engine. I declined the offer and keep a careful eye on the firefox updates.

I need to find out where to tell FireFox to notify me of updates instead of automatically downloading them. At least that would let me know whether it was a new version or just a fix of an existing version.

Things are good here Boom. One of the longest springs I can remember. Beautiful weather.
As for the "maintenance service", I have no idea. I'm basically computer illiterate. Sorry.
