last year at the start of the fishing season i found alot of dead smallmouth and largemouth bass dead on the shores of lake saint clair and did not know why. then trying to catch a picral (walleye) was like trying to get the government to get rid of taxes. I also found out that they wher still holding their eggs long after they wher supposed to spawn? any ideas on why?

Dead fish show up every spring...winter kill accounts for most of them, temps,
lack of easy prey, oxygen levels etc. etc. Disease takes a fair amount yearly as well. Some years show more due to currents and wind direction come ice-out. Fish have a preferred water temperature that usually triggers them to spawn, add in depth fluctuations as another wrench in the spokes...this year with all the ice jams, the lake rose and dropped more often and more drastically than it has in decades...they're all waiting for your offerings now though :D tight lines!!!

Thats right, if the water dosn't reach the correct spawning temperature by a certain time, the fish just don't spawn that year and just reabsorb the eggs. The coldest winter on record here in the south and I'm still catching big crappies full of eggs, this won't be a good spawning year for crappies.
