Re: what gauge wire?

How long is the run and what kind of motor is it? If you look on the Minnkota website there is a gauge calculator for the amp draw of the motor and length of the run of wires.

In my boat I have a Minnkota Endura 30 with about a 20' totaly circuit (10+, 10-) so I used 10 gauge wires.

If the battery and motor are both up front (bow mount) or if both are in the back (stern mount) then 8 gauge is sufficient. However if the battery and motor are separated by the length of the boat then voltage drop becomes and issue and you should use 6 gauge although on a small boat (14 - 15 foot) you might get by with 8 gauge.
