It's worthless. I no longer answer my home phone. I am now getting junk calls on my cell which really sucks because I answer that one while I am work.

Un-enforceable, so most folks that dial for dollars tend not to use them. It seems like they dial broad ranges of numbers, not even using a list per se.

ALLOT of the calls have been outsourced and the rules do not apply.

However......... I have been getting MULTIPLE calls from a foreign country saying my microsoft computer was infected and they were directed by microsoft to contact me. I usually hang up but now I play with the people......

I got one yesterday at home and started yelling OMG I WON!!!! I WON!!! Tell me how to collect my money. The guy was flustered and I told him my friend Bill Gates has an infected computer and he should call him...... it worked the person hung up on me :D

What I do sometimes is ask them if they can hold for a second while I go to another phone. I lay the phone down and let them hang.

+ 1, Though it says you don't have to re-register on the website it seems that you do. I registered my number and two others a few years ago and the phones stayed pretty quiet for a long time then out of blue early this month the phones seemed to be ringing off the hook with junk. I re-registered and all seems quiet again.

It's worth a shot at the very least.

I have been using one of the little air horns you get from a boat supply store.

Anyone (or their agent) that you have given your number to, can call.
Ever sign up for something at a sport show, or a web site, or your bank?
Ever make a donation to a non profit org, or a political organization, or campaign?
Fundraising calls from those groups are the most likely source of calls, especially the ones looking for additional money.

Wisconsin has its own DNC list, in addition to the federal list.
THey just levied $136,000 in fines and yanked a business license for violating the law.
They nailed them about $1500 per call.

After asking for their name and company name for clarification, then tell them this conversation is being recorded. I will ask them to place me on THEIR do not call list. Then inform them I do not want to be called again and any call will be considered harassment and they will be prosecuted. It usually works, if they stay on the phone that long.

You guys are easily amused, I must say. And what is a home phone??

I don't answer anything I don't know....ever!! It's called time management, and I'm very expensive LOL. They can leave a message if it's critical!!

The thing that irritates me so much about this phenomenon is the claim that the phone service providers don't have the technology to prevent it or to track down the originators. I call BS on that. They profit from it and so are not interested in stopping it.

If they can charge me extra for a caller ID, how much extra do they charge the users who falsify their caller ID's?

It's this bogus "helplessness" of the major providers that facilitates this stuff. Who's kidding whom?

We screen all our calls with an answering machine. One particularly persistent one, I answered and told them I wanted to be taken off their list. They hung up on me.

"That sounds interesting, can you hold a sec...." put the phone down and hang it up 15 min later. No repeat calls.

It is what us that have no cell service use to talk to the outside world!

Good point, Guess I wasn't thinking clearly as I made that statement and or question. It's amazing how I just made the assumption that cell phone use was available to all and having a land line would be redundant. Didn't mean to sound arrogant but prolly did. I still wouldn't pick up any call that I wasn't aware of because of time management. None of the robo dialers will ever leave a message.
