What email program do you use?

I'm setting up a new computer & for the last several years have used Outlook Express for email. I got Microsoft Office Home & Student 2010 software with the new one, but Outlook isn't included with that suite.

Is it available separately? Or can you recommend some other email software that you like? My son uses Thunderbird, but I haven't checked that out yet.

I have used aol for the past 12 years and hate it, but keep it because too many people have that addy. I first used aol as my backup browser, too, but it cost too much so I switched to the free version. My browser is Firefox.

My trusted Email is through Gmail. Quite happy with that.

If your computer came with Windows 7, it should have Windows live mail. Once you turn off half the garbage on it, and figure out how to set it up, it pretty much works like Outlook Express did.
I just ended 15 years of using Outlook Express with this new computer, I feel your pain.

I get all my email off of a POP server so I use Outlook. I don't really like web based email services.

gmail here. Had it for YEARS w/no problems Controlled and run by google.

Thanks for all the information. I did download and set up Thunderbird, but not sure if I'm going to like it yet. It seems OK, but a little "clunky", maybe it's just that I haven't fully learned it yet. My son swears by it.

I have AN AOL mail account, and generally consider it my "throw-away" account that I give out when I think something might result in a lot of spam. I like to download messages to my own computer to manage them, it seems faster to me.

I really dislike setting up new computers. I've had this one since Oct. 16 and just now took it out of the box and have been delaying setting it up for several reasons.

It's a Dell and I was on the phone with support within the first hour over a buzzing outer case. It seems to be better now, they are supposed to call me this morning to follow up. I thought that was pretty good service, although this is not the first "vibrating Dell" I've had. The other one would only be silent after I stuck cardboard shims all over the place in the case to take up the sloppy tolerances in the case construction.

Also having trouble liking the Windows 7 interface and IE 9. Time will tell, I may go back to Firefox.

I've heard a lot good about gmail, and considered Windows live, but again, they're web based.

I use Eudora. I believe it is very similar to Thunderbird. I would never use OUtlook. It is too common and email viruses are often specifically created to exploit it.

OE, used it forever on my 98 machine and still on this XP

Both machines run a purchased copy of MailWasher, and I really love it. MW polls all my email accts, POP3 and web based aol, gmail, shows me the list and designates suspected spam. I select what mail to keep and hit the button MW deletes all the junk from each server, then opens OE to download only the remaining mail that I selected. Saves massive bandwidth and time that it would have taken to delete each junk mail if it had been downloaded to OE. Supposed to work with all mail programs but I have only used it with OE.
