What does "LOL" mean ???

I know I'm probably just an ignorant Aussie, but I hav'nt got the faintest idea what it means. I've seen it quoted in many posts. Waiting for enlightening.

Let's Order Lobster, Little Orphan Lester, Lots of Lard, Lick only Licorice, Leprechauns Open Lentils, Lack of Listerine, Losers on Line -my personal favorite What LOL really means is Laugh Out Loud, or do any of the rest of you folks have any other ideas?

It was explianed to me by my 17 year old son as Laugh On Line.....I hadn't a clue...I see a few more and still trying to figure them out...GooD Luck...<br />Bill...
