I just bought a 90 Maxum with a 90 Force outboard on it and all guys have me thinking Force is a junk engine. So tell me is Force any good or not. What does it mean to decarb and how often should I do it. Are there any other problem areas that I should pay attention to? Thanks for all your help.

Howdy, DWC.

Force engines are not junk. They are old technology engines that need more and different care than modern engines.

De-carb means cleaning the carbon build-up from your pistons, rings and combustion chambers.

There are several products sold for that purpose. Just follow the directions on the can.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the reply. I will decarb in the morning before we take it out on the beautiful Illinois River. I will do extra maintenance on the engine to assure proper mechanical performance.
