What does catalist assemby do

Hi all I just bought a yamaha waverunner 2001 XLT 1200 but I was told it needs a catalist assembly, not sure what it is or what it does and can it be repaired.

When I bought it, the head was cracked, needed a piston and a catalist assembly, what would take out these items, this is my first PWC and need to learn fast about them so I do not mess it up

Probably talking about the catalytic converter. Works just like the one on your car to reduce 2 stroke emissions. Problem is that on the Yamaha skis, the cat/con tends to fail and actually break apart over time and actually fall into the exhaust system and cause problems.

Rather than replace it, most owners recommend installing a plate called a D-Plate.
