What do these guages do?

HI there: I own a 24 foot boat with a 5.7L Mercruiser engine (1988). I'm very into prevention and early detection of problems and am considering adding the following guages: fuel pressure, oil pressure, pyrometer, drive temperature (all from Gaffrig). My question is: what types of problems can these guages detect? Earlier in the year, we had water in the fuel tank, could the fuel pressure guage have helped to detect this problem?
Thanks.

Nope....Fuel pressure gage will not detect water. Dont waste your money on all of those gages. You will be worried about something all the time. Relax and enjoy. Too many gizmos is more stuff to break. You should already have a oil pressure gage. Oil temp might be nice.

Gauges are only as good as the person interpreting them. I think in most cases, warning lites and buzzers are more effective. Many times gauges aren't watched, and engine failures go undetected.....

my .01 cents worth :)

I meant to say oil temperature (I already have oil pressure). What kinds of problems would oil temperature alert me to?

One gaget that you may find worthwhile is a drive oil monitor. These will alert you to all kinds of potential problems before the drive gets hurt.
