What do I have?

So I have done the regular serial number lookup. Serial number is 0D229404. It shows up as a 1993 40hp Jet model. Sold to me though as a 1989. But all those show up as 4cylinders. This is definetly a 2 cylinder. Anybody have any ideas. It runs well regardless. Just bought for a project jet zodiac.

where'd you get that serial number?

Don't look right to me.

More like an '82.

Serial number is off the leg section by the transom bracket

So perhaps a 1993 lower with a different powerhead. Not a big deal but I'm trying to get to the info now for in the event I need a fuel pump or the like.

You may find an engine serial number stamped on the top of the cylinder block.

But yes, that serial number (0D229404) does come up as a 4 cylinder, so someone's been playing funny buggers with serial number tags.

Much older than '89.

I think it's more like an 80-83 motor with a later transom bracket.

Well I will look today If I can find a year on the powerhead, Interesting that there would that much interchangeability through out the years. I doubt the fellow I bought it from even knew. However that does increase the likely hood of keeping me in a working jet, as I can probably find powerheads from multiple years that will run that lower and pump assembly.
