What do I have

I recently purchased an older model boat. The motor is a 75hp chrylser, from 1982. How do I obtain additional info about the motor? Is it good? I recently had the water pump impeller replaced, and forgot to ask. Also would it be recommeded to use this motor for trolling? I cannot afford to replace it, so proper maintenance and TLC is all I can do. All the info will help as I am new.

Being new to it, it is recommended to do searches on these forum's. Also check http://www.outboardrepairs.com/chrysler/

The Chrysler is a long gone make. It's reputation is mixed and you should take great care, not to invest larger sums in it. Therefore your idea TLC is good.
Is it good?
Can't say. No old motor is better than the care it received, Chryslers are almost gone by now, guess why? Parts can (most often) be found but are not available from each and every store.

Motors of that time, when nobody did anything to improve idling for hours, are not very happy trolling. They were build to idle for short and then run/cruise for longer periods. Fouling, extended smoke and cutouts can be expected from trolling around at idle.

In any case a manual is called for. Good for gettings specs and hints, guidance and troubleshooting. Link is on this page.

Before doing much to it get an idea of the price level for a second hand 'known good brand', still in business. May be cheaper (and better) than fixing the Chrysler, should it brake down.

Re: What do I have

Thanks guys I really appreciate the guidance. The motor however old has less than thirty hours, so I am hoping that it runs well for a while. I will get a manual, and use a trolling motor rather than the main motor. any additional comments are greatly appreciated
