Looking for advice on what kind of cover to get. We've got a 2007 Tahoe Q6 SF. We just bought it but the cover that the previous owner had got trashed last summer. I eventually want to get a good cover but need something that isn't going to break the bank for me to get me through this winter ($100-300 if possible) Any suggestions?

I bought one of these earlier this year... fabric is really thick. There is a lot of straps which is good when driving. Alot of straps means a lot of straps to undo and redo as well.

Why not get a couple of heavy duty plastic tarps from your local hardware store & some 2x4s and just get it covered really well with that for the winter? You're just trying to keep rain, snow, crud from getting into the boat over the winter so it doesn't have to be anything super fancy - just durable. Also, a heavy tarp properly tented will allow the snow to slide off much better than a fitted boat cover will (I have a boat cover & am considering a tarp for winterization). The problem with the covers is that snow will sit on top of them and stretch them, then they form pools where water sits unless you're diligent about shoveling the snow off.

A tarp solution should cost you easily less than $100 for everything - maybe even less than $50.

iboats has a crazy sale on covers and bimini tops the end of every season. Not sure when it will be but it may be worth waiting for. You have to act quick though!

Walmart is carring a top brand of heavy duty trailerable covers in all sizes. They are great and I purchased one for an 18 ft boat for $159.00 Canadian.

Where we are the sun causes more damage than anything. Properly winterized, 2ft of snow sitting on the boat does less damage compared to years of bright sun on your cover when you're living a mile high.

Apart from our normal trailer-able cover, for winter storage I also picked up a cheap larger basic tarp from Harbor Freight (or any hardware store). Tie it up good, create some slope for drainage and that extra $20 tarp will save you years on whatever "good" cover you go with. I've got a much larger tarp now, but this happens in winter in my locale. *Warning, pic may cause nausea for some viewers*

I'm waiting to purchase a 12x24 used billboard. Should fit the bill! $50 shipped from ebay.

If you are going with home-made or non-fitted, consider your neighbors if that's a factor where you keep it. And plastic tarps can be noisy when they get to flappin'.

SNOW!! VOMIT!!! I'm in Nor Cal so snow ain't gonna be an issue. Wind on the other hand is horrible on base here near the bay area. I do like the idea of getting a decent cover and then a second tarp. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah, I remember those days (living in COS) but now live in the Mojave and only have to worry about sun and wind damage.
