What could it be?

I just started looking at Bass Tracker boats, my question is if the motor says Tracker by Mercury could this simply be a Mercury engine or could it be a Force engine ? Particular boat I'm looking at/spotted is a 1996 with 40hp outboard engine.

If you can get the serial number, that will tell the story.I believe 1998-99 was the last year for Force..
