Good morning fellow boaters -

Joined yesterday first post today. All I can say is 'Wow' what a site! So much information I don't even know what to do with myself. The ol lady and I are now fighting over the PC because I have been reading through everything on the site.

Anyway, I'm desperate already...

I have a 1993 Bayliner Capri 1850 limited. She has the 3.0 Mercruiser 4cy/Alpha I. The carb is in desperate need of a rebuild, I have it stripped and ready, but cannot find the kit. Engine serial number: OD847591. The numbers stamped on the side of the carb: 15396A-4 and below it is: 2303.

I guess this is the original carb, not Rochester #'s.. but no one can seem to find what carb this is and whether there is a kit for it. Obviously there is, I'm just stuck talking to salesfolks that are as informed as I.. It's a 2brl

Anyway, can anyone tell me if this is just the original Merc built carb, and can I pick up the rebuild parts from AutoZone or Pep Boys, etc, or am I looking at something else?

Thanks so much for any assist. Long time boater, hope to be a long time poster. Good day

NAPA should have a kit. Take the CARB numbers to them and they can cross it.

Yeah, I'm going to take it up to one here this afternoon but I read him off the numbers and he went through the rochester manual and the Merc manual and couldn't match them to either

I did a quick look in service manual and a merc online parts site and could not find a match. The part #15396A-4 digit sequences don't seem to match merc part numbers (see examples below). The lower 2303 should be the mfg date code, March 03, 1992.

Merc 3.0L L/X mercarb part numbers from service manual 13:
1389-9562
3310-806077
1389-815396
3310-806078
3310-805924
1389-815397

Sorry.

The reason you cant find your carb rebuilt kit, at napa or pep boys or kragen auto parts, is because thats a marine carb. they dont have those in their cross ref. books, stay with a marine carb, even the rebuild kit should be ordered from a marine shop, try iboats or diversifiedmarine.com

NAPA does carry marine parts. I believe it is mostly Sierra stuff.

Yeah, I will stay with the marine carb. The guy at Napa said they carry/stock marine carbs, but only the a select group, the main being Sierra, yes. They also carry the Merc built carb 'parts', but no kits. The issue was that they couldn't determine what kind of carb it was.

I'm on my way now to Napa with the carb to see if we can match it up. Will inform of the outcome. The weekend is around the corner and I need her running. If I don't get on the water I'm going to loose my mind! Thanks for the assist!

Not wanting to embarrass anybody, but NAPA does carry rebuild kits for marine carbs under the NAPA name. And they do have a cross for Rochester carbs. Just recently in here Don (I believe it was him ) referred to the NAPA kits being better than the OEM.

Ok, back from Napa - They were very helpful

40 minutes, 6 catalogs, and 3 phone to Merc and the Napa headquarters, they find it. They *still* do not know what kind of carb it is, but they compared it to a Rochester copy.

So Roch makes a carb, specifically the 18-7611 (Napa part #) or Mercruiser/Rochester ID#: 3310-807312A1. Rebuild part # 187098. Full kit with all the goodies unlike having to buy all the individual parts for the Merc rebuilds. (in case anyone needs a reference in the future)

Anyway, that's the info on that. Thanks to all that replied for offering the help. It works out fantastic as now the lady can have her PC back while I'm sitting on the water. Kit comes in tomorrow.
