WHat can happen if you overpower?

What can happen if you overpower? I have a 68 starcraft with a 4 cyl merc (140hp). I am wondering if i can install a v8. I know the hid tag says 170 limit.
But what dangers are there when you over power?

Damage the transom or worse break it and or have a boat that is to fast for the design and not handle worth a crap WAO and scare the geebeezes out of you and your passangers. But that also depends on how much over power you talking about.

The main structure I-beams will not handle that weight of a V8.You would have to reinforce the stringers.

The 4cyl mounts on the transom more or less. The V8's mount all on the stringers. Transom would be fine but the aluminum stringers would not.

You did not say what size boat you have.

If you do it add a lot of strength to the stringer system and call me when your done......I want to go for that RIDE
