Your group 27 battery can work.
Advice above is good too.
General rules of thumb:
A Starting battery for starting.
DC Deep Cycle battery for accessories and trolling motor.
Dual purpose battery is a compromise that covers both applications.
Group 31 is large, group 27 medium, and group 24 small in physical size.
A group 31 will have the most reserve amps (power), which is handy if you ever have trouble starting your motor and are working on getting it started for 10, 20, or 30 minutes.
Think of "reserve amps" as how many times you can try to get your motor started on a day.
A group 24 starting battery will start you motor if it has 500 CCA, or 6000 MCA. (marine cranking amps)
Its hard to find a battery with less CCA than this.
CCA are measured at 0*F, usually found on a car battery.
MCA are measured at 32*F, because boats are generally used above freezing.
You don't need 900 CCA for your motor.
That being said, larger, if it will physically fit in your battery box, isn't a bad idea, if the price isn't too high.
Be happy, go boating.
