What are these pins from?

I found these in the lower gear unit. They are not from there and I don't know if they were left over from a previous over haul or have fallen from up above. I've counted about 14 of them. Model 1967 RDSL 29 Super Sea Horse

Looks like a roller bearing from the drive shaft bearing.

I have a lower unit question too, so don't think in any way that I know a bunch about boat engines, however that said....

.... a needle bearing is what that appears to be, and with your discription of 14 of them....well that almost for sure. the question that i have is how did they escape from their race... I find that idea concerning, but it could be that they are put in there with a touch of grease when lower unit assembled not sure as I am not familiar with that model nor a guru..... I am just sure that that is a needle bearing.

It's a needle from some bearing, better check all of them.

After closer inspection, you are right. Another part I'm going to need. I see in the repair manual where they are driving it out to replace.
