What are these black plastic clips for?

I've got a set on each side of the boat, in the passenger seating area. Can't figure out what they are for, but I'm suspecting perhaps a fish gutting/cleaning tray could fit into the grooves? The clips that are positioned more amidships are not as wide. Your thoughts?

My first thought is a stay for bows to keep the cockpit cover that snaps to the gunwale elevated.

That makes sense, especially considering all the snaps along the gunwhale. I don't have a cover for it, but its normally kept under a tarp or inside the shop that I'm still constructing. Thanks for the input!

For a bimini top. I used to have them on a Bayliner.

Weird. I have a bimini on it now, but it has nothing to do with the clips. If someone can post a pic how the two are related, I'd be grateful for the understanding.
