My 20a fuse,by the starter blows as soon as power is turn on at the battery selector, could this be caused by a bad rectifier/regulator, last time i ran the engine, 175hp johnson, i swicthed the battery selector while it was running to check the charges on the volt gauge, is this something that is okay to do, i think i read on here not to do that?

It is ok as long as your battery switch is the kind that makes the connection to the second battery before breaking the connection to the first one. I'd say most all fairly recently made ones are that type.

But still....I wouldn't do it. It can be chancy.

The 20 amp fuse feeds your t/t switches and your ignition switch at the front of boat. Look for something in those areas to be shorted.
