what are generics for Mercury lubes & sealants

I'm getting ready to reassemble my Mercury powerhead. It calls for Mercury products in the shop manual but they are allways too expensive. What are the equivilent products that I can find at any parts store. I need the needle bearing assembly lube that needs to be gas soluble and the sealent for the crank case halves. My machine shop said to use the regular copper sealent on the crankcase.

In the automotive world, Lubriplate (the white grease) in the tube, #105 is the popular rebuild lube. It's between 90 wt oil and #2 grease in consistency. Stays put till you run it but washes out after you do. Most auto parts stores carry it.

I have regular assembly lube and I know it wouldn't hurt anything but doing needle bearings is a little tough if they just want to fall out. Need that thick stuff like you said. I'll pick some up.
What is good for the case halves? I fairly sure some of the silicones and other type sealants are too thick for machined surface unions.

I use 3M plastic cement for the case halves. Silicone doesnt work as oil and gas arttack it.

The lubriplate works great for the needles if you have a wrist pin stub there to hold it all together . Cut an old wrist pin for the needles to the width of the rod plus the washers and use it to hold the needle and washer assembly in place while you slip the wrist pin in. Makes life a LOT easier. Less than 5 minutes from the start of loading needles to getting the clips in.

I would recommend loctite 518 for the case halves.

Looked in Pep Boys, Sears Hardware for 518. I would have thought they might have it but no good. I'll try a local speed shop next.
Good suggestion on the wrist pin.
