Re: What are engine muffs?
Thats odd that you can't find a decent container. I have run motors up to 85 horse in a regular plastic 55 gallon garbage can purchased from Wal-Mart. You can also get muffs at Wal-mart as well. You don't have any garbage cans laying around?

I also second Just Jed in using a container over muffs. If you do find and use a container, make sure that water is above the cavitation plate (tha largest horizontal plate above the prop), otherwise you could have problems getting the water pump to prime. I only use muffs if I know the water pump if fine and I am doing some other task that requires the motor to be running.

Just noticed your location. I am not sure that New Zealand has Wal-Mart or K-mart. You could try a livestock supply outlet and see if they have any of those cattle watering cans, but that might be a bit of money to spend just to see if a motor runs. Anyway, good luck....
