What am I doing wrong when buffing with Starbrite Premium Marine Polish?

I hope this is the right section, but I am running into issues when buffing out the polish. It's as if the polish stays stuck and won't buff out, leaving a good amount of residue and marks. I used the Starbrite Cleaner Wax before applying the polish as well, and followed the directions as best as I could. What am I doing wrong?

We probably need pix, Is the surface of the boat real chalky. You may need something more aggressive than polish to get rid of the chalky.

Well you wax after you compound and polish not before. Two things that come to mind...using too much product or you just have a poor quality or inappropriate bonnet. Also, are you cleaning your bonnet often?

Are you doing fiberglass? It's rock hard and you can't polish it with normal stuff. If it's really bad start out with Presta Heavy Cut then Presta Gel compound, then a normal polish then finish wax. Do a section til it's right, then you will know how much effort to put into the rest of the surface.
I had a badly chalked finish on my 30 year old Formula. So this year I did a wet sand then followed with the Presta. Should have not even bothered with the wet sand. I have 30 hours in finish this year.

+1 on Presta. i used Presta Super Cut followed by Presta gel coat compound then meguairs flagship applied by hand. i would have liked to use a polish before the wax but ran out of time so next year i should be able to go straight to gel coat then polish then wax. but even now it looks great.

i tried meguiars buffing compound and ran into the same issues you are describing. love the flagship wax but hate their buffing compounds

I'll get pictures tomorrow, but shouldn't I be using the Cleaner Wax first since its meant to clean the surface and get rid of any oxidation? Then use the Premium Polish to brighten and seal the fiberglass? It seems to help the blue fiberglass a lot, but the white has zero shine and looks very chalky. Should I try using a buffing compound?

Your oxidation maybe too much for the product you're using. Its best to start with the least abrasive and the go to more aggressive products until you get the results you need to remove the chalk. Our 40 yr old boat was really oxidized, we scrubbed the boat, then we started with a mild compound then tried a more abrasive compound but it was still not enuff. So then we wet sanded, then rubbing compound, then finess-it(milder compound) then a polish and wax. The results were amazing. I'm a 3m fan personally. Final wax was Colinette. Start in a small spot to see what the effects of the product is.
