So the story so far: to make full use of my R.I.B I wear a drysuit. Great bit of kit but the weak spot is the built in socks which are made out of very thin rubber. Got a split in one a few weeks ago so decided yesterday, after getting freezing cold wet foot, that I'd glue a patch on it.
Got Bostik 2402 two pack adhesive: brilliant stuff: bonds great and is ideal for this sort of fix.
Mixed up the two pack, smeared both the sock and the patch with glue then waited twenty minutes then, as per the instructions, placed the patch over the split. Now I needed to apply pressure to the joint for a while but just at that moment her indoors decided that it was urgent that we went shopping
Frantically looked around the garage and found a plank of 4x1 which I placed over the patch and a full bag of cement to place over the plank allowing me to apply great pressure to the patch without being there :D

Came back four hours later...........

Anybody know how to remove a three feet long plank of wood from a drysuit boot which has been stuck on with the best glue in the world  :(

shouldn't complain really, I now have a built in waterski :( :(

Belt sander? :D

Cut the board off and install a bigger patch in the new hole you just made?

cut the plank at heel & toe, glue another of the same size to the other foot. Very durable soles!

Bwah-hah-hah!

Actually I do have an idea for you. You need a very sharp wood chisel, wide enough to span the clue joint. Then, with the sharp edge down, work it through the glue joint. You won't cut anything, but it'll separate the two. Guaranteed.

Bro, we used to split immersion (aka 'dry') suit socks all the time - you should be able to buy a whole new sock to replace the split one. Ring up your nearest RAF fast jet base and ask for the safety equipment section then ask for a flying clothing technician - these guys will be able to help with how they do it. If you're really cool* about it they may even offer to do a "foreign order" for you.

*By cool I mean: you're going to have to make up some story about how you're going to attempt to break some kind of RIB World record and donate all proceeds to the RNLI and desperately need some assistance. Or something! ;)

Cheers for all the thoughts and giggles: must admit I was lol'ing a lot myself at this mistake

Triton: I know a supplier of socks but it goes against everything in my Scottish Blood to actually spend money on anything :) but you did give me an idea......I have a few oppos left in SAR and I hadn't thought of just handing over the suit (which is ex-SAR anyway) and just getting it done by Her Majesty :D

I wonder if "Liz" would sew on a nice Union Flag patch at the same time :D :D

PS: I did get the plank off: used some solvent that was lying around the garage and just took my time: the "wet foot syndrome" has been cured so I'm a happy bunny again.....
