I had plans to get the rotors and drums off my Ranger to have turned tomorrow.
Well, my other truck was full of junk and ready for the trip to the dump. Got in, and tried to start it. It turned real slow... Jumped it, and it finally started. Shut it off and tried a start again. NOPE. Turned real slow.

Can't be the battery, cause it's not even a year old, and when I try to jump it with my 200 amp charger, it practically set my starter to switch cable on fire!

It's been turing real slow for some time. I always figured it was because the engine is real tight, and has a ton of compression.

It had to be the starter. Only thing left in the equation. Ok, no problem. Starters are cheap for this rig.
I break out the wrenches, and go to it.
Got all bolts loose. DAMN HEADERS!
Devine intervention wouldn't help here.
Had to completely loosen/remove the header. What a pain. Now the starter just falls to the ground.

To the parts house (trip 1) Got the starter, gaskets for headers, and some anti-seize. The header bolts took 5 white knuckles, a few colorful metaphors, and a flying wrench or two.
(I knew I should have put the anti-seize on the first time...)
Get home. Try to stuff starter in... More colorful metaphors. You'd think it would go in easier this time around. DAMN HEADERS.

OK, starter is in. New starter to switch cable is in. Now the header. Damn..wrong gaskets!
Ford made a few different ones here, and the header type are smaller. DAMN HEADERS!

Off to parts house (trip 2)

Back home. Took 10 minutes. Gaskets in, starter in, all is well. Starts nicely. Few exhaust leaks, but that's a header for you. Forget it.
Made it to the dump with 1/2 hour to spare before closing.

Anyone on this board has my permission to kick my *ss if I ever put headers in one of my cars again!

Back to my Ranger. Good news here. The drums and rotors came off quick. Very simple.
The money I will save over a pro brake job will buy me a nice set of Rancho shocks for it!

Time for a beer....

Hope everyone had a nice day.

H.
