Recently got a new 1997 vortec engine that was for a chevy 2500 sub. I installed it the boat and it works rather well. I'm pulling the engine out cause i never installed the brass freeze out plugs or changed the head gaskets. I also was going to repaint the bilge over winter. While the engine is out what type of performance parts should i install? Different roller cam, pistons? Should i convert it to a 383 stroker? It's going in a 1986 cabin cruiser which weighs around 7500lbs. I'm using a new complete sei drive unit with a 1.5 gear ratio

I wouldn't change anything but the brass core plugs. Leave the headgaskets alone. And geez, if you are going to try to turn it into a 383, you should have bought one of them in the first place. My official advice, leave it alone, and use it as is.

What he said. For a cabin cruiser a 383/bravo or BB/bravo would be a better choice. A performance 350 is not going to help you.

You have a big boat, It will take ALOT of added power to make a significant difference. Your money would be better spent on a good prop, matched to your needs and trim tabs if you don't already have them.

Boat has trim tabs. Just looking for ideas to get max performance out of the engine. Since the engine will be out over winter. And it didn't cost me anything for the engine
