We have a 1978 Angler. We recently drilled into transom and wood inside was a little damp. Transom (whole boat) seems very solid and Mech who installed new outboard last year said he saw no problems. Wood itself looked good and screws went in very tight.

Is the wood being a little damp a very serious problem or just a fact of life with an old boat.

ridiver,

A wet transom IS NOT GOOD. There should be NO water getting in there.

My advice,

Unbolt/screw everything you can from the transom, including the engine. Let it dry out and seal all the holes with 5200 (3M) sealant. Reinstall everything.

Do a search for "rotten transom" on this board. You'll learn everything you wanted to know-and more!
