You can wet sand and buff on the same day

you will see the reason why sand and butting is best done at the same time frame when you get to the clean up stage "from experience " its a messy job and clean up is time consuming if the sanding residue is left to go rock hard.

i overcome some of the drudgery by high pressure washing before it set , however clean up was a lot easier when i sanded small areas then buffed shortly after.

first an last time i will wet sand and buff a boat especially when its a dark color over white , next rime its off to the detailers no matter what the cost :).

No problem with your plan at all. Just give a good washing to the sanded surfaces and surrounding area as soon as you are done sanding. FYI I would not wet sand unless absolutely necessary.A good 3 step wheeling will yield results that may be what you need instead of wet sanding. Sanding will sometimes remove more gelcoat than you need to and can also be uneven or blotchy.Charlie

Use 600 wet dry.----Followed by 1200 or even 2000 wet dry.-----Then polish with any number of paint polish or buffing compounds.
