Wet Exhaust hose hook up question.

I just bought some of the 3inch exhaust hose and should I use some type of sealant when clamping it to the solid/rigid exhaust pipe that goes out the back of the boat? RTV or silicone or anything or just get it nice and clean and maybe use two clamps? It looks as if someone puttied something all over it before me.

I would think that just the clamps should be enough. Pictures are worth a thousand words. It would help us a lot if you had a picture for us to look at.

There is no mention of sealant, on the rubber exhaust hose, in the Mercruiser maintenance manuals I've looked at.
