In about fifteen hours Team Deuce will be headed west; from Little Rock, Arkansas to Walsenburg, Colorado with a little detour to Dodge City in between, thence to Salida on Sunday. We decamp and head to Cottonwood Lake USFS campground outside Buena Vista Tuesday, then on Thursday we make our way to Red River, NM and camp at June Bug Campground in the Carson National Forest. Huevos Rancheros and history in Cimarron Friday morning then we head to Amarillo (and hopefully Palo Duro canyon) with a stop at the Capulin Volcano en route. We have an Airbnb on Route 66 in Amarillo til Sunday, then it's back to reality. Sigh.

One fifteen year old daughter, one girlfriend, one fifteen year old son, one fourteen year old daughter and yours truly. What could possibly go wrong????

A lot. Best advice, confiscate all smart phones and force them to appreciate the fabulous scenery they are going to see.
Not sure how your getting to Buena Vista but if coming from the east on 285 at the tiny town of Grant is Guanella Pass, you climb to 12,000 feet with gorgeous views of Mt. Evans and wind up in the historic town of Georgetown. Could almost spend a day doing this so might not fit your itinerary. Sounds like a great trip, I love it out there. I think the "kids" might just have fun. Especially if you take some back roads.

Absolutely nothing, Grasshopper ... (Keep and list and share with all of us so we can laugh at your misery... er, um, I mean laugh with you)

Have a fun time! I didn't see any stops for floating the rivers in your itinerary ... what is up with that?

Some of my favorite trips happened when the kids were all in their mid-teens. Not everything went the way they wanted, but when for the most part they made their own fun out of what we did and I got a kick out of their reactions. Y'all have fun.
