I was just wondering if any of you guys knew of any good areas where I could anchor, and go to shore. Maybe a beach or something like that. I have seen spots, but most of them are private beaches, and I know how territorial people can be in some towns. I have also checked on the New York / CT side, but have not found anything really suitable. I am in City Island, so I hit the New Rochelle area on the New York side, and around Port Washington on the Long Island side. I have heard all these rumors about places, and I do have charts, but I havent actually been to any yet.

Thanks.

you need to look at were you want to go and then look at the LOCAL regs for that area because its different for every town

some are no problem

some you have to be so many feet off shore ect

some have a lot of no anchor zones

you dont want to block the rich folks view ;)

tommays

I don't know how far from City Island you care to go. There are 2 places that come to my mind that you may consider: 1) a cove at the end of Floyd's Neck and 2) Center Island Beach on the Bay side (Not on the Sound side.) The cove is by far the more tricky to enter but is almost right on the Sound at Cold Spring Harbor. Study the chart and watch as you see boats entering the area. Once you've found it you will see why it's almost invisible. Center Island Beach is straight foward to get to and there is a near by marina (Bridge Marina just under the Bayvill Bridge.) if you need bait, food or marine stuff.

(The cove is just North and East of the Cold Spring Harbor entrance buoy #1.) (Center Island Beach is located at the NW end of Oyster Bay Harbor. Enter Cold Spring Harbor Southbound to the fork at Oyster Bay Harbor and follow that to the beach.)
