You can send condolences later :facepalm: I actually got two pairs of nice sandals for myself out of the deal, but that's not the point. My Mom has been making some serious money in her "retirement". And she loves to spend. Often on us, but on herself too. So we go to Nordstrom yesterday, the wife is messing with makeup, and I follow Mom over to Women's shoes. Take a look at these sandals she was eying for herself:

Nice enough. Simple leather, no stupid stuff. Nice clean plain look. She tells me "I'd buy them if they had a softer sole".

So the point? Guess the price. You can click the second pic attachment for the answer, but give it an honest try before you look.

I agree, but in my Mom's defense she gives a ton to charity, so I don't think of it as some sort of bad thing. She loves quality things, especially anything to do with clothing. She makes a lot of her own clothes too. She doesn't spend on cars, has a 1998 Camry. We all have our weaknesses, especially us on this board . . . But I can't imagine even $100 on sandals. There were some $950 shoes there too, that didn't seem any different than some for $80. That's where I have an issue. I don't like paying for brand names, although I will pay for service and Nordstrom certainly delivers that. Not sure it's $430 in additional margin worth of service though . . .

FYI: You are a better man than me. It would take a boat load of drugs fed directly by IV and a chain hooked to the bumper to get me to take two women shopping.

They took me. We're in Chicago visitng for the weekend, so kind of on my Mom's agenda. Somehow my Stepfather was nowhere to be found once we were leaving . . . Hmmmmmm.

That's a learned skill, vanishing into thin air. Believe it or not, he was right there at the front door seeing everyone off, but no one noticed him...

I once made the mistake of driving my wife and my sister up to an upscale strip mall in Harrisburg. Once we got there I quickly realized there was NO men's stores there at all. I split and went to BassPro and came back for them later. Phew!

$500 sandals should walk for me.

Yes, no typos, no BS. $530 and she was ready to pull the trigger Fliipin' amazing that you can get someone to hang that kind of a price on them, and then you can find someone willing to pay it. The fact is whoever determined that this combo could work is a genius. Let's say they cost you $25 to make and you could get away with selling them for $50. You would need to make and sell 20x as many sandals to equal the profit of on sale with the Nordstrom model. Yes, there are many pieces missing from this simple analysis, but it illustrates the whole issue with cost and sell and brand and etc. etc. etc. Similar to the discussion last week on Service Departments that are willing to turn away work (non-repair I/O?). Why tie up a shelf or a bay or a technician to make less money? Stupid.
