Well I finally made my first mistake boating!

We're out at Clinton Lake KS this weekend and I anchored the boat just off the beach area, which is normally a pretty calm spot that a lot of people stop to swim at. Yesterday the waves were pretty choppy, but we stopped anyway. I knew my anchor line was frayed in a few spots, but I just haven't had chance to replace it with all the other things I have been fixing on this boat.

Well yep now there's a perfectly good anchor at the bottom of the lake. Your welcome Corp of Engineers! I noticed pretty quickly because I watch the boat constantly, but by the time I got the wife and all the kids loaded I had to hop out (in about 4 feet of water) and push her back out...

Oh well. Lesson learned!

I'm betting you'll find time to fix your anchor line real soon now.;)

I lost a good anchor once. Never use a caribiner to connect your anchor to the chain!

Luckily I had some extra "rope" I take camping, and a grandpa-in-law nearby with just about anything you could ever need in his barn...

Still had to give his anchor back after the weekend though, so I am in the market!

I lost a POS anchor once due to a caribeaner once, good riddance! :D

Funny thing was, the anchor had been holding the boat for 6 hours in 2-3' chop, then when I hauled the anchor, the anchor wasn't there anymore, but the caribeaner was still clipped to the line. Strange for sure...

Well, now you've proven that time really IS money, lol.

On the bright side, if that's the worse that happens, you've got it made.

What depth were you anchored? If it was just off the beach in a spot your familiar with might be able to grab a mask and snorkel and save yourself 50 bucks.

Not deep but the water on that lake is pretty dark, and by the time I noticed it was drifting God knows how far we went. I only paid 15 for the anchor used, and I since replaced it with a Danforth that I really like.

Congrats on your first mistake. Now you only have 99 to go and you'll catch up to me. LOL

you may be able to find it with a grapple. Someone is going to find it with his fishing lure.

I got my anchor hung up under a bridge last winter and I struggled to get it up; when I did I had rope, marine life, twisted rebar, some tackle and another anchor!

A locking caribiner will work just fine. It's those crappy ones they sell for your keyring, etc. that shouldn't be used:

dang. I've been using one for a while. It came with the anchor so I thought it'd be OK. I will have to take a close look at it next time I'm out to see if there are any signs of wear.
