Well, didn't want to jinx myself by spilling the beans too soon but it's been almost 2 weeks and things are looking good.I hooked up with one of the front runners in the boat-lift manufacturing business.Even though I have seen several of these since our recent move to the sunshine state,I never really knew how much work went into making even a little PWC version of oone of these things.Maybe I will actually pick up a thing or two about boats in general, since a lot of these guys are very knowledgeable and very talented skill wise as well.Although I must admit,I haven't found any yet that actually have a boat,LOL.Just thought I would drop a line to you guys since I was pretty excited about the job as well as having my weekends back! :D :D

Very cool job! Congrats! I'm sure you'll like it.

Isnt it always fun to see how much somebody knows about something and they dont even own one? Boat, motorcycle, airplane, train -- doesn't matter. It's always a blast.

So what do you do with them? Build? Sale?

I work in the "top beam" dept. so yeah, building for now.We make lifts to handle up to 160,000 pounds, but the biggest I have done so far is the one we started this afternoonand will take us the rest of the day tomorrow and it's rated for 24,000.The ones I make use electric motors and winders kinda liked winches and the beams mount on pylons in the water. We also make hydraulic lifts and elevators that mount to seawalls, docks and in boat houses,it's really cool to see how some of the stuff is made, especially since we machine all of our own parts in house.Fortunately for me when I go to lift these things our lifts are 98% aluminum,LOL.Maybe sooner or later I will learn enough to sell them and make the kind of stitch I actually need to work on this "project" (and I use that term LOOSELY LOL) of a boat that I have on my hands now.A little linkage for anyone who's interested:
www.immboatlifts.com

Congratulations. I worked for a few years in a job I didn't like but it paid well. Anyway, like some other old fart said, "find a job you love and you'll never have to work again."
