Weird sound

Hello,
Today while out on the river I had a great day. At wot I hit 5500 rpms with a top speed of 43mph. Awesome. After running for about 10 minutes at that speed I decided to head back to the ramp. When I got there and shifted into neutral I heard an intermittent "pssst" sound. About every two second it sounded like an air leak. I took the cover off and low and behold one of the recirculating hose popped off. Easy fix and I'm back in business.
Oh, and one other thing, while in gear at 1/4 wot it seems to be missing. But at wot it takes off like a rocket( no miss) Any ideas???

I've got a 1988 125HP motor. Idles real smooth between 500 - 750 RPM's but when I get it up to 1200 to 1500 RPM's it sounds a little rough. Not exactly a miss but you can tell it's not happy. When I open it up all the way it takes off smooth as silk to 5700 RPM. I have a friend that has a 1995 120HP and it basically acts the same. I think it's the nature of the beast.
