I have a 1980 penn yan 20' cabin cruiser. I am trying to find out the weight of the boat, for a trailer purchase. The ID # of the boat is PYBE0184M80A I currently have a tandem axle trailer which is in bad shape. I am looking at a single axle trailer, but I am not sure if it is heavy duty enough for the boat.

A 20’ PENN YAN cruiser from 1980 does not show in the NADA VALUE AND PRICE GUIDE. once you have the correct model you can go there and get all specs. Value, weight, beam etc.

I have a 20.5 foot open bow Rinker. no idea if they'd compare in weight but mine is listed at 3,000 pounds and on a single axel trailer. haven't had any trailer problems. online says 2675 pounds without fuel gear or passengers. Perhaps yours is a bit heavier but must be under 3500 pounds which makes a single axel trailer perfectly feasible unless the single axel is rated low. My brother has a single axel trailer we've gotten just over 4,200 pounds of crushed stone on. it squatted a bit and was over for sure but its a little 5x8 trailer with smaller axel. if buying used trailer measure the axel diameter and check weight listing online

Single axle boat trailers go up to about 3100-3400 pound capacity (boat TOTAL weight). Penn Yan data is basically non-existent. When they went out of business no records were retained. Your best bet is to have your rig weighed.
