I have a Mercury 110 9.8 that weighs @70 lbs. I am thinking about going to a used 25 hp for my 14 foot mini bass boat (wood floor and raised front deck, bass seats and other accessories). Does anybody know the approximate weight of an older 25 hp motor? Also, would it double my mph?

Re: Weight of 25 hp Mercury

I think the early 25's are 95lbs and the later ones are 112lbs.

Prop/speed charts only give you a general idea, I would guess maybe a 10mph increase.

I have had both and the 25 vrs the 9.8 on the same boat feels like it goes a whole lot faster.

Good luck and wear/install a kill switch.

I have a 14.5 aluminum bass boat with a simular set up. It has a 25hp Mariner 2 stroke. It tops out at 23 mph.

I have a 14 1/2 foot fiberglass jon boat with a 2003 Merc 25hp 2-stroke,
and a stainless prop(makes a big difference),
with 2 men (520#) gear, cooler, ect... probably 700# more or less.
I've consistantly got 33mph on gps reading.

the motor itself is approx. 112-117#
