Weight limit sticker?

I am currently in the process of a 1988 Glasstream Cuddy Regatta 19' restoration. It belongs to my son and I am attempting to get it finished after sitting for years and years. Question here is, the sticker that denotes the person capacity for the boat, I understand these need to be displayed for the appropriate persons and general safety. The sticker that came with the boat is no longer worthy of use. Question is are these available for the purpose of restoration? It was covered with vinyl, I uncovered it since it needs to be displayed and it is way beyond its use. Any ideas?
cheers,
Kevo

Re: Weight limit sticker?

Try calling the Mnf. or the Coast Guard about getting a new plate. Here is the math to find out capacity.

Length X Beam (in feet) Divided by 15.

Good luck

That is only a rule of thumb calculation, and the capacity number has varied over the years. It does get you close though, just checked with two of my boats, for one it is over by 1 person, the other it is under by 2.5. (the first is an inboard, so if you take the weight of the engine off the capacity, it is also under by a couple people.)

Are the numbers legible? I received instructions directly from the the Coast Guard a while back:

Bob,

If your state or local law enforcement requires you to have a US Coast Guard Maximum Capacity label and the manufacturer is unable to make a replacement plate for you, please use the attached file for guidance in development of your own label, then laminate it, and attach it to your boat. You will then meet your state requirements. If you have any questions, please give me a call.

Unfortunately, the .pdf file he attached is too big for the forum. I'll see if I can PM it to you.

Re: Weight limit sticker?

My boat was missing the capacity plate so I went online at OfficeMax or Staples and has a custom plaque made with all the info, $10-15. I had it made in brass and the plate was 4"x6" (I think). I put a couple coats of lacquer on it before installation to protect the surface.

I don't know if it's up to USCG standards as there is no yellow section, but at least I have a capacity plate on the boat.

Quick question???
Are plates supposed to be stamped as well as painted???
If the plate is stamped, take a marker and fill in the stamped areas that have worn off.

Mine is a simple vinyl sticker in yellow and black. But I've seen embossed plastic ones.

Re: Weight limit sticker?

Thanks again for all your suggestions and help. You made it easy for me to think of a way out of the situation. I took a picture of the sticker on the boat that was partially missing. Through viewing others like it, I surmised that there was very little information missing and, since the owner of the boat is a Photoshop wizard, I sent him the picture of the original sticker and he reproduced it with the missing part restored! He is a genius with some software. I will print it on masking paper and then laminate it, walla!, new sticker...
thanks again for all the help,
Kevo...:D
