Weight Difference?

I have a 14' Valco aluminum boat that has a 25hp max rating.
As I understand it, a 4 stroke motor weigh more than a 2 stroke of equal hp rating. I'd like to mount a Mercury 15hp 4 stroke motor but don't know if it's too heavy for the transom. Thus these questions.

How much does a 15 hp 4 stroke short shaft weigh?
How much does a 25 hp 2 stroke short shaft weigh?

Re: Weight Difference?

I don't have Merc numbers, but here are some numbers off the equivalent Tohatsu site:http://www.tohatsu-uk.net/ (UK based, therefore in Kg!)

2 st: 15: 41kg, 18: 41kg, 25: 52kg, 30: 52kg.
4 st: 15: 52kg, 18: 52kg, 25: 71.5kg, 30: 71.5kg

ie, depending on your manufacturer, and their break point on hp ranges, it is likely that the 15 4st will be about the same as a 25 2st.

Re: Weight Difference?

Really appreicate the reply.
It looks like I'll be safe in hanging that 15 hp 4 stroke on the Valco.
Again, thanks
