Hello everyone,
I was looking at the bottom of my 70's vintage 16SS, and noticed a roughly 1/4" hole roughly under the where the driver's feet would be in the keel. I was going to hit it with JB Weld, but for some reason I thought I remembered reading it might be some type of weep hole. Can anyone tell me if that is correct, or if I should seal it?
Thank you for the help.

Yeah, that's a weep hole. I foolishly closed mine with JB Weld too and ended up drilling it back out. Silly human.

Can someone explain what/how these weep holes are?

To drain water from the keel stamping. The stamping isn't sealed to the hull and it will fill with water. Draining helps prevent sitting water from corroding the hull.

And in cold climates, freezing and splitting either the hull or keel.

AH! So what on initial inspection I thought to be a missing rivet is not! Question..... If I go in salt water, is there a way to rinse it out? I'll have to make some thin tube attachment to a fresh water hose and fill it after I come back out......? Does anyone do this?

Yeah, that's not really practical. I'll be running salt most of the time. I will keep it in mind and set up some sort of rinse system.
