To continue the tradition started last Monday by John_S:

Camped at Lake Bridgeport with family & friends, but me & the dog were the only ones interested in fishing. That's okay with me. Beautiful day Friday, almost no wind, but about midnite a strong north wind picked up. Around here, that means cold front, which usually shuts down the fishing. But the wind was virtually gone by noon Saturday.

My first time on this lake, arrived too late Fri nite to launch the boat after pitching camp, so I didn't get out there before 8:45 Sat. morning. Overslept, then the kids, 12yo daughter & friend, more interested in boys than fishing, got up while I was having breakfast so I stopped to cook theirs, too. Then I had to launch by myself, but that takes only slightly longer than when I have help.

Anyway, the first thing I saw after entering the main lake from my cove was a big flock of seagulls circling & diving. Thought I had hit the jackpot. There was maybe 4 boats holding on the downwind edge of the bird activity & casting in. I swung way wide around 'em, cut the motor pretty far out & started easing in from the east with the T/M.

But the birds disbursed just as I was about to get within casting distance, and the boats left soon thereafter. Managed to slab up a couple from that spot (N/NE side of Rock Island); came back later & trolled up a few with the hell/pet. All hybrids a couple inches under the limit (18 inches).

I think it was coincidence & my bad luck that the schooling stopped when I arrived, but now I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have tried to flank 'em. Please chime in with any ideas you have about approaching a school.

Had a couple hours to fish Sunday morning - the lazy birds were just sitting on their keesters, no help at all, so I drifted awhile & caught a few more undersized hybrids.

Perfect weather for camping, though, and enjoyable weekend. What's it like in your neck of the woods?
