Found a great fishing lake but to get there I have to go about 1/2 mile down a weedy river. My 6H Evinrude bogs down pretty fast. Is there anything out there to protect the prop?

Re: Weedy River

Difficult situation, for sure. If you allow weeds to accumulate on your outboard, you're likely to block the water intakes and overheat.

What kind of weeds are you dealing with? If it's the long algae stuff, you're pretty much guaranteed to clog your water intakes. Sometimes an electric trolling motor is the best solution. You're only going a little ways and they're fairly weedless and don't have water intakes.

How big is your boat? Oars work pretty well on tin boats up to about 14 feet, if you're only going half a mile, and it's good exercise to boot. If you do row, raise your outboard to cut down on drag.

Finally, if this creek is moving pretty well, you might be able to raise your engine and drift to the lake.

For every problem, there is a solution...even though it's sometimes not the one we'd like.
