Anybody else having crazy weather this winter? Its the middle of Feb and I'm still looking out at grass! In Canada! We haven't had enough snow yet this year to be worth talking about and its always melted again in a few days. Ponds are partially open too. Not really complaining mind you, not a real fan of winter anyway!

Our snow just melted this past week with temps in the 50's. Now the ice is starting to break up on the lake (ponds are still covered) and ice fishing will come to an end the beginning of next week. we have had 3 days of 50's, then the next 2 or 3 days are under freezing, then it is supposed to be back in the 50's. Yep, a little crazy ...

Crazy? Crazy cold. -32° last nite. That seems to be the magic number with single digit highs. We've been -20s, -30s and -40 a lot this year.
A lot of the south has been cold too. Brownsville Texas was under a winter storm advisory/warning. Gulf Shores AL had to close their huge pier multiple times due to icing. Yup, climate change is alive and well...... Funny when it gets super cold it never gets mentioned....🥶

Yeah, the falling lizards story made it up here to. Seems more weather extremes these days, cold and warm. Part of that might be that we report on it more too, but here where I live, the winters are definitely milder then when I was growing up.

I must have jinxed the weather with this post...we have a big snow storm headed our way for Monday/Tuesday! At least the snow can't last too long getting up to this time of year.

In early winter, we clean all the snow from the car before heading out. By this time of winter, we start the car, warm up a bit and say f**k it and go.

Mid 60's here in NoFlo .. Pretty much normal .. My daughter recently moved to Minnesota . She has been sending pics and vids of the weather up there .
Pretty nasty . Kind of a different world for a Florida raised girl ..

We had a colder winter than normal down here, but I wouldn't say extreme. More colder days, but not as cold as we've gotten in the past. We've had more snow than I ever recall down here in a single winter, but we haven't had our annual ice storm either. It's been a different winter, but not a overly harsh one.

Tucked in between the Atlantic and the Appalachian Mountains with the jet stream overhead in the winter, we have always been subjected to wild weather swings in the winter.

Getting a 60 to 70 degree day in the winter is fairly common. 68 yesterday…woke up with 1” of snow on the ground this morning. Back in the 50’s by Tuesday

The one thing I’ve noticed is the rotation of the seasons. Locally, things have shifted about 3 weeks. Not only the weather but the migration patterns of birds and fish as well.

weather?, climate?, change? all depends on how these terms are defined. and yes, now that there's 24/7 "news" in so many places, "news stories" must be more sensational than the next to get eyes/ears/ and advertisers attached

That same jet stream flows right over NL too. Usually whatever you get we will get some version of it a few days later. Your 1 inch of snow will probably grow to our 35cm of snow by Tuesday. Most of this winter the jet stream has been a little west and we have been on the warm side of all the major systems passing thru.

The jet doesn’t bring us snow. Serves as a boundary between warm and cold air for us

Any weather (snow) coming from the west gets knocked down by the mountains.

Most, if not all of our snow originates in the Gulf States then moves north and east (offshore) where it collides with the warm water (80 F) off the Outer Banks (NC) and blows up into a Nor’easter.

If the storm tracks up the coast close to shore we get crushed. If the storm passes further offshore like it did last week, those east of us get crushed. We had maybe 3” here. A friend of mine not 50 miles by way the crow flies got 12”+
