Should I wait until warmer weather before continuing break-in?
How long should I maintain "near WOT" during a break-in run?

Follow your owner's manual on wot or not, and let your comfort level be your guide

hello
once you reach the stage that wot is permissable for short periods just keep it in the 4000-4500 range with occasional WOT runs.
time to go cruising :) :)

Re: WEATHER vs BREAK-IN

Rodbolt,

Went out today for a run about. After a warm-up of approx. 3 mins, planed out with just a little miss{approx. 3500} then smooth out. After 20 mins running time{4500-wot}, I tested the planing again with no miss. Continued run about at or near wot for 1 hour 45 mins. Stopped{head call} and when attempting to plane, boat started missing and would not stop. limp 4 miles back to ramp. Took it to the shop for evaluation. I did check oil before going and oil again above max mark. red float still at bottom of filter.

make sure they understand that you have added no oil or tell them if you have. while its uncommon to have fuel or ign problems on a new motor its not unheard of.
sounds like you may have a fuel issue. if so the plugs will tell it. I hope your servicing dealership has great techs.
good luck and keep us posted

Thanks again. I sure hope I haven't got a lemon.
I am having a water/fuel separator installed while at the shop. Will keep you posted on the outcome. THANKS AGAIN

Re: WEATHER vs BREAK-IN

Lloyd,

For the fist 2 hours of operation you should not open it up. after the 2 hour initial period you should not run the engine at WOT for more than 5 minutes at a time. If you do not follow this procedure, the computer on this engine may be able to tell anyone who works on it how closely you followed the directions.

Until the rings get seated with the cylinder walls you can and will get blowby.

after the first 2 hours with mine i varied my operating speed as much as psosible throughout the RPM range so as to not create any high sopts or ridges.

Hope this help,

Kid
